The Gospel in One Verse

The Gospel is One verse.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The most familiar, and most comprehensive, yet most simple text in all the Bible is this text.

We see:

1.The Origin of redemption: “God so Loved”  The fountain-head of salvation is the love of God. Salvation is good news and salvation is God’s subject, a holy subject, it takes us to the very heart of God. What could be more sacred than these words “For God so loved that He gave….” Also read 1 John 4:10  Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

  1. The Object of redemption: “The world”  The ungodly world in all its wreck and ruin and unlovable. A world so blind that it did not know its MAKER when He came.

John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.”

  1. The Outline of Redemption: “Gave His Son”   This was love’s sacrifice to win back an alien world from the love of sin and power of the enemy. God in outlining redemption, planned that He Himself should provide the payment price. Such is grace. The great sacrifice could not be bought. It is the gift of God. God’s appointed Lamb alone could suffice to meet the world’s dire need.

4.The Objective of Redemption:  “Should not perish”   Salvation that the world through Him might be saved John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”  The objective to save and give eternal life, a home in Heaven. Do you realize how little Bible knowledge a person needs to be saved? All you need is in the verse!

5.The Outreach of Redemption: “Whosoeever”  There is ample satisfaction for all because there is ample provision for all also read  Revelation 22:17 “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely”.

6.The Offer of Redemption: “Whosoever believeth in Him”   John 6:47 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” The Sanctity of Salvation, it’s God’s work. The Simplicity of Salvation “believeth in Him” Salvation is for all men, all nations, all races and all kinds. The Success of Salvation is 100% salvation works. II Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. “He that Believeth on the Son hath everlasting life” John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

7.The Outcome of Redemption:  “Not perish, but have everlasting life” Not hell but Heaven: Some would ask, “Then how can a loving God send anyone to hell?” Because He is Holy and Just and if man rejects His Grace, God must give man what he desires.  Judgment and wrath not Mercy and Grace.
